Frankly speaking Friday - Invest in yourself

Asha.jpeg

This month on Frankly Speaking Friday we had Ms. Asha Daniel, an image consultant who spoke on “Invest in yourself”. And no, this was not just another session on family investments and policies that every corporate individual would hear about. It is about the most important aspect of every individual, which has mostly been ignored or least prioritized.

How many of us actually spend a considerable amount of time in front of the mirror every morning? Five minutes or ten minutes??!

Few may not even bother to look at the mirror and all we want is to make sure that we are not late to work or college and we don’t miss our bus or train. No matter where we go every morning, we are always in a hurry!

Ms. Asha who holds eighteen years of experience in corporate etiquette training took the influx team through image building and how important it is in today’s corporate environment. The...

Insurance is a subject matter of…

After little to no activity in the financial services space for the last decade odd, Influx suddenly has two insurance companies in its portfolio and a third around the corner. With so much interest now around the subject, we decided to quiz some of the team on one of the tenets of insurance.

We asked them to fill up the line, oft mentioned / quoted / mumbled at the end of any insurance product’s ad in print, on radio or elsewhere. Go ahead, give it a shot -

INSURANCE IS A SUBJECT MATTER OF ___________________

5 ways to up cycle your bird cage

birdcage.jpg

I’ve often seen people release a dove to commemorate important events and milestones. I used to wonder why they do it, up until the moment I started writing this article (I read about it on Wikipedia).

To me, birds are free spirits. They can fly the skies, while you look up to the skies and sing, “I believe I can fly”.

Ironically, most of the free spirits are caged. They are kept in cages, either as pets in some homes or up for sale in the market. Even the kinder-garden books show birds and cages as a package.

None of us want to be put in a closed space without doing the things we were meant to do. Humans were meant to move around; Birds were meant to fly high.

While we got our freedom in 1947, the verdict came a little late for our friendly fliers. The Delhi High Court has stated that birds have the fundamental right to “live with dignity” and fly in the sky without being kept...

A momentous end

It’s been a long time since we posted on our blog. While most often that’s accompanied by a truckload of guilt, this time, we genuinely can say we’ve been busy sorting out the house.

As we stand on the verge of the new financial year, it’s been a crazy push through the last quarter of FY14-15.

Jan 1st, 2015 - we were celebrating the start of our 10th year in business. We’d sent out a nice e-mailer chronicling our journey that got a lot of responses from the folks who received it. In reality, we were staring down the barrel. Behind on our turnover targets, nowhere close to fulfilling our growth plans in terms of the team and with an investment offer that had turned sour from prospective investors in Dubai, there was enough to be concerned about.

However, I sit here today, writing this with a deep sense of achievement and gratitude. We’ve managed to scrape through and actually...

FSF: Get rich before you are 35

Last Friday, August 1st gave everyone at Influx the opportunity to listen to investment and economics guru, Mr. Shyam Sekhar from ithought. There was no beating around the bush - we were getting a chance to listen to a man who on an average day, makes trade calls to the tune of several lakhs of rupees on behalf of scores of customers, entry level to the super rich. We wanted it straight from the horse’s mouth -

how does one get rich before 35?

Hosted by Ritika Jhaver, the originally planned 60 minute session went on for about 120 minutes and though it stretched the end of the week along by quite a bit, absolutely no one seemed to complain.

photo (1).JPG

Shyam’s advice was simple - avoid the 4 classic mistakes that every Indian investor makes. Surmising:

  1. ‘Invest’ in a car - according to Shyam, a car is a mere display of vanity and a pseudo display or measure of success. To be strictly avoided as...

FSF: Stay Happy, No matter what

I must admit, I wasn’t surprised when most people let out disapproving sighs of agony when we announced the topic for the second Frankly Speakin’ Fridays event for July 18. As our speaker would later go on to substantiate, no one, NO ONE in this world likes to be told that he/she should be happy. But I had faith in the speaker and her knowledge in the subject - “Stay Happy, No Matter What”.

Charged with putting together this FSF was our own Namrata, who did so with aplomb. And frankly said, she was dealing with a darling speaker - one of Influx’s favourite clients and well-wishers, Mrs. Jeyasree Ravi. Mrs. Jeyasree, founder of Palam Silks is a life-skills trainer and having benefitted from sitting in on a few of her sessions and reading through her material, I wanted everyone at Influx to benefit.

Personally guilty of missing half the session due to a client meeting that ran late...

Frankly Speaking with Mr. Gururaja

Pic-5.jpg

On 13th June, Influx interactive kick started its first edition of ‘Frankly Speaking Fridays’. What started out as just an idea on a casual friday discussion, materialized into a highly educative and interactive weekly property.

Mr. Gururaja Kumar, Chief Financial Planner of Billford Financial Consultancy services inaugurated the first session of FSF and did nothing short of compelling the Influx team to start investing as soon as possible. Once Mr. Gururaja started talking about the various facets of investing and financial planning, the session planned for 45 minutes extended for more than 120 minutes.

No one in the office wanted to let go of this opportunity, as Mr. Gururaja was bombarded with questions from all sides regarding personal investment issues. There was something to take home for everyone present during the session. Youngsters in Influx Interactive now have a better...

For the love of our furry friends!

At Influx, we love pets. And when one of Harish’s friends decided to launch a networking initiative for pets, or petworking as they put it, called [Petcialize](www.petcialize.com), we couldn’t but resist help them in whatever way we could. Here’s a story by Harish on the first Petcialize event.

Each month, we put together a poster for the event letting people know about the next event. If you like these posters hit the kudos button at the bottom. If you like the initiative and want to be a part of it, visit Petcialize on Facebook.
